Last year we hosted Team Inspiration, an award winning robotics team based in Scripps Ranch, San Diego, CA, in our office to see robotics and Green Button Go in action. The team is comprised of 14 high school and middle school students; 6 of the team members are girls. They compete in both land and underwater robotics competitions.
Most recently they competed in RoboSub 2020. RoboSub is an international underwater autonomous robotics competition where college and high school students design and build their self-driving vehicles to navigate through a series of tasks. There were 33 teams representing Brazil, Canada, Egypt, India, México, Norway, Poland, Singapore and the United States and territories. All but 3 teams were from top universities around the world such as Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, Duke, Georgia Tech, Arizona State University, SDSU, UCSD, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, National University of Singapore, etc.
Normally, the competition is held at the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific TRANSDEC in San Diego, CA in early August. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 competition was moved to a virtual venue. In lieu of vehicle performance, teams were evaluated on a technical design report, video presentation, and website.
The 2020 RoboSub competition results were announced yesterday and they were stunning! Team Inspiration took home the following awards:
- 1st place overall
- 1st place in technical design report
- 1st place in website
- 2nd place in video presentation
