Structured Identities Framework, and More Tools for Control and Support of Workflows

GBG Orchestrator releaseThis month, we’re delivering new user-requested features in Green Button Go Orchestrator through the launch of version 2.0. The theme of the features in v2.0 is all about providing more building blocks and greater control for deploying and implementing multi-workcell orchestrated systems.

Read on for more detailed descriptions of what’s changed in Green Button Go Orchestrator with this release, and reach out if you’re interested in an upgrade. To take advantage of these new features, you will need an upgrade to GBG Orchestrator v2.0.

Structuring Identities for Rapid Deployment and Configuration (With Backwards Compatibility)

The latest version of GBG Data Services comes loaded with a new structured framework for Identities that will make it easier than ever to configure identities for everyday work in the lab. New Identities categories include:

  • Resource, including samples, compounds, reagents, and consumables
  • Vessel, including tubes, vials, wells, tanks, slides, and dishes
  • Container, including racks, plates, boxes, shelves, and compartments
  • Device, including storage, mobile robots, liquid handlers, centrifuges, etc
  • Workcell, including manual, automatic, and hybrid

The framework provides common structures that make it easier to build systems, execute commands, and compile desired data within the laboratory. Instead of starting from unlimited options, now you start with building blocks to complete the most common objectives.

For labs that prefer to continue operating in the open-ended Identities mode, the latest version of GBG Orchestrator is fully backwards compatible, giving you the power to create custom data points as needed for any system.

Improving the Real-Time Multi-Workcell Experience

To make it easier to monitor the complex flow of activity across a multi-workcell, orchestrated system, we’ve improved the view of current runs in GBG Workflow Conductor to provide more information than ever. Critical details like active workcells, error states, unresponsive states, and length of time spent in a run are now all easily accessible from a simple dashboard.

Other minor improvements have been made throughout GBG Workflow Conductor to make it smoother to manage errors, receive in-app notifications, and decide the best course of action at a manual approval checkpoint. These complex interactions now flow easily through the GBG Workflow Conductor interface, giving you more tools to manage an orchestrated system.

Plus More Tools for Writing Workflows at the Orchestrator Level

  • Added a new Workflow Option called “Ready Evaluation.” This step in Orchestrator-level workflows allows you to pause points within the workflow to await specific conditions triggered through basic variables or complex scripts.
  • Added support for Workflow Template Versioning. This feature allows you to save a template as a unique version when registering from GBG Workflow Designer into GBG Data Services. This allows you to switch between versions of the same template during testing or when validating a new method.
  • Added a Workflow Healthcheck. When building workflows in GBG Workflow Designer, you can now click the Healthcheck button to validate the program, confirm that variables and transportation are ready, and warn you about errors like version mismatches. This new tool helps to catch errors early on during workflow design, instead of during execution.
